Roberto De Icco, is a neurologist of the Headache Science & Neurorehabilitation Center and the coordinator of the Analysis of Movement Research Unit of the IRCCS Mondino Foundation (Pavia, Italy); he is a Researcher at the Department of Brain and Behavioral Sciences of the University of Pavia. Roberto De Icco received his medical degree summa cum laude at the University of Pavia, where he also completed his residency in Clinical Neurophysiology. He obtained a PhD Degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Pavia. Dr. De Icco has been working as a consultant neurologist at the Neurological Research Institute C. Mondino Foundation since 2017.  During his residency he completed a research fellowship at the Headache Department of the IRCCS Neuromed...

Dr. Gangolli received her PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis after completing her thesis work performing radiological-pathological correlations of diffusion imaging metrics and CTE histopathology in human ex vivo tissue. She is currently a post doctoral fellow at the Center for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland. In 2019, she was accepted as a research fellow in the CNRM Military TBI Fellowship program. Her current work is focused on using noninvasive imaging methods to characterize cortical spreading depression. Dr. Gangolli’s primary areas of expertise are in the fields of diffusion image acquisition and image processing and analysis....

I have during the last 10 years focused on purinergic signalling, within different organs and models. My research has focused on physiology of the pancreas, heart/brain and nervous system, with emphasis on pathologies including fibrosis, ischemia and migraine. I master several methods, which I also have supervised, these include: 1) Cellular/molecular methods: western blot, immunohistochemistry, PCR, fluorescent microscopy, ELISA. 2) Ex vivo methods: myograph of rodent/human arteries and organ culture. 3) In vivo methods: PV-loop, myocardial infarction, models of ocular ischemia, intravitreal microscopy and a inflammatory model of migraine. My current research focus is on the sensory innervation and how this can be applied to understand the pathophysiology of migraine....

Dr. Greg Dussor’s research focus is on uncovering pathological mechanisms and therapeutic targets for migraine headache. Since the most likely mechanism contributing to migraine pain is activation of peripheral nociceptive signaling from the meninges, experiments in the Dussor laboratory have focused on identifying cellular mechanisms of dural afferent activation/sensitization as well as understanding plasticity at the central terminals of these neurons. The laboratory has identified targets within the meningeal nociceptive system including acid-sensing ion channels (ASICs), several TRP channels, and IL-6 signaling mechanisms. His team has also developed and optimized several preclinical behavioral models for studying migraine. More recently, they have begun to investigate mechanisms that may contribute to the higher prevalence of migraine in women. These studies include a...

My main research interest is evidence-based mental health and precision psychiatry. My research focuses on the evaluation of pharmacological, psychological and psychosocial interventions, mainly about major depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. I have carried out many systematic reviews, meta-analyses and randomised controlled trials in psychopharmacology, however in the past few years I have been also investigating relevant issues in epidemiological psychiatry and public health, like patterns of drug consumption, risk of serious adverse events (most of all, suicide and deliberate self harm) and implementation of treatment guidelines. My interest in the methodology of evidence synthesis has now a specific focus on network meta-analysis and individual patient data meta-analysis, trying to assess the validity, breadth, structure and interpretation of these statistical approaches...

K.C. Brennan, MD, is a clinician scientist who specializes in the treatment of headache. disorders. His lab studies the basic mechanisms of migraine and post-traumatic headache. Dr. Brennan's laboratory studies derangements of brain excitability. A particular interest is cortical spreading depression (CSD), a wave of runaway excitation that is thought to be the basis of the migraine aura. CSD is also involved in traumatic brain injury, stroke, and epilepsy. The lab uses a combination of techniques including optical intrinsic signal imaging and spectroscopy, voltage sensitive dye imaging, two-photon microscopy, and electrophysiology to study CSD and the disorders it affects....

She is associate professor of Neurology, and Consultant Neurologist, at the Department of Neurology, Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), Netherlands, where she also runs the Headache Clinic. Gisela Terwindt is chair of the scientific committee of the Dutch Headache Society. She is member of the International Headache Classification Committee, the IHS Ethics Committee, and chair of the IHS Women’s Leadership Forum. She has published >150 scientific papers and several book chapters on headache and migraine.  She received a prestigious personal grant from the Dutch Organisation of Scientific Research...
